Well, it was bound to happen. Here is a glimpse of the new Safeway Doublers. Not only do they have a new appearance, they also have much more verbiage to sort through and more restrictions. I'm sad they have arrived in Molalla. Hopefully they go away next week. :)

What are the new restrictions? I am planning a trip later this week but would love to know in advance if any of my planned deals/coupons will or won't work! Thanks.
ReplyDeleteSo.....how are they going to keep track of 4 doubles per household per week? And by the wording....they won't double internet coupons?? Walmart and Albertson's here I come.....
ReplyDeleteMolly, I don't think they really can track the doubles per household per week thing unless you go through the same cashier each time. This is a hard one for me. In order to coupon with ethics one must follow all the rules. I don't like this rule and personally find it a little extreme. I can totally see one per household per day but per week? Wow!
ReplyDeleteI did a self check out transaction yesterday and Miss Cashier actually asked me if they were all mfg coupons before she rang up my doubles. I was a little offended being that I shop at Safeway frequently and she knows me well enough to know I'm not an extreme couponer.
Only time will tell if this is a bad thing or not....
I hope it's not tracked by household....that could lead to problems if people start using other people's phone numbers. I have not shopped at safeway in a while. No time to clip/sort and no screamin' good deals.
ReplyDeleteI have been reading the responses on Facebook, and Safeway said that the doubler is being tracked by club card. Also, with the wording on the doubler, they will not double a MC if it is used in conjunction with a Safeway in-ad coupon. I have 2 club cards, but I feel like it is unethical if I use 2 doublers and 2 club cards per week. :-(
ReplyDeleteI have been couponing majorly at the Molalla Safeway for over 2 years. I used to go couponing there every single day and all the cashiers know me very well. But, since the first policy change in October I know only go about once a week. The cashiers used to be really friendly and excited and now they are hesitant and uneasy. I'm an ethical couponer but some people ruined it for all of us!
Oh, and Safeway confirmed on FB that they will not double internet printed coupons. Oh well, we will find new deals!
Wow, Emily. Thanks for the info. I haven't had time to dig into this and like Molly, I haven't noticed any screaming deals lately to get me in there. I agree with you in that we need to keep couponing with ethics or we become one of the people responsible for all these changes. It's a tough one to swallow but eventually we'll get used to it. It's still a plus to get doubles since stores like Walmart and Fred Meyer don't offer them. Unfortunately for Safeway, Walmart generally carries the same products for much cheaper...regular price. It will make for fewer good deals but like you said, we'll find new ones. Thanks for the post!!
